Scuba Diving in South Carolina

South Carolina is located in the Deep South, and has many beautiful beaches and many historic Victorian houses that still stand today. The capital of South Carolina and its largest city is Columbia. The state is known for its scenic beaches and highways. Many people enjoy taking scenic drives along the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway along Route 11.

One can explore an absolutely wonderful wrecks, reefs and ledges teeming with the largest schools of amberjacks, spadefish, barracuda and grouper that have seen anywhere, not to mention the tropical that inhabit waters in South Carolina.

The peak diving season for all of South Carolina is May to October. If you’re on vacation and you don’t like traveling with your gear then you can rent! South of the crowds and neon attractions at Myrtle Beach is a pristine peninsula where four rivers converge and flow into the Atlantic Ocean. Known as the Hammock Coast, this strip of land is home to eclectic beach communities and some of the best diving in the Southeast.

Noted for its distinct low-country charm, the area has historic and picturesque town centers situated along the waterfront, nature preserves and state parks teeming with wildlife, and top-notch restaurants famous for fresh seafood. Its coastline is littered with a variety of shipwrecks, artificial-reef systems and an abundance of fish. Within about a 50-mile radius, there are more than 20 dive sites. Fall is an ideal time to go, as the summer crowds are gone and water temperatures average in the mid-70s.

Divers can enjoy diving in North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Garden City, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach or Pawleys Island for their diving needs. If you want to learn to scuba dive or if you are an old salt, South Carolina is look forward to you. South Carolina is a fabulous location for diving wrecks and for experiencing up close encounters with the many tiger sand sharks that live in the waters offshore.
